Much Ado About Nothing

Wales' First Minister's traffic lights                                                                   Original image: BBC

What did we learn from the First Minister's 'Traffic light' system to lift the Coronavirus lock down in Wales? - Nothing of any consequence.

Moving from red through amber to green is a familiar traffic light pattern in the UK. That is more or less the substance of Mark Drakeford's revelation.

A waste of time and money.

  1. Like so many politicians, encouraged by journalists, he felt the need to say something even if though it lacked substance.

I disagree. What he was surely trying to say was that the end of the current lockdown won't be "all or nothing" but phased, and that people should be patient. All right, you may say that that's obvious, but I think there are quite a few people out there who are saying, "Let's just get back to normal and let's do it now". If the traffic light idea helps them to realise that it won't happen like that, then good.

  3. To be fair, The First Ministers of Wales and Scotland tell it as it is, with no deception or waffle as we get with the Westminster lot. Priti Patel, yesterday was Priti Pathetic. Shop lifting is down compared with 2019!!!!

  4. The newspapers came up with the traffic light system not the first minister. He also increased lock down in Wales yesterday with more unclear nonsense.
Wales has stopped having testing targets and is way behind England yet the press say nothing. Debenhams is threatening not to reopen in Wales due to differences in business rates.
Can you imagine the chaos is Wales and Scotland differ in lifting lock down from England? Who will police the borders?

On a slightly different note, I was shocked to hear that my parents both in their 80's as life long Anglicans have had no services at all provided by their large ministry area (Monmouth) and no phone call/email to see how they are from any clergy or wardens.

    1. The neglect of life long Anglicans is the same in my area. Our local vicar continues to do two near identical celebrations of communion on Facebook every Sunday morning from his living room, which those without a computer cannot watch. There is usually one viewer at the first celebration and about ten at the second. Our archdeacon has a Q & A facility on the diocesan website. I asked her politely for her opinion on cessation of public worship - no names no pack drill. I got an abusive response in return, quite a rant, calling me offensive and much else, and was told in very strident terms not to contact her again!

In contrast I commend our priest. He keeps in touch regularly by 'phone and by post.
All we want to do is return to our church.

    3. Shocked? Really?
And two eucharist services on a Sunday is two more than we've had in the whole of the last six weeks

  5. Danny Jones, I'm sorry to hear that your parents have had no contact from anyone in the Ministry Area. Unfortunately, this is typical these days. An elderly cousin of mine has just died. Regular attender at mass until she became ill five years ago. Since then, absolutely No contact whatsoever despite my informing clerics of her situation. From another comment on this site, I recognise the Archdeacon from her described gender. She made a visit to a parish with which I have loose connections. She upset a lot of the old folk by her use of language, not usually used in church - and I don't mean Latin!

Meanwhile at Llandaff, there is much ado about something else. In recent weeks, grumbles on the Green have queried the whereabouts of a certain senior clergyman. A notice has just appeared on the Cathedral website by way of explanation:
