Grandstanding

Source: Twitter

Rachel Treweek @BishGloucester tweeted:

"Amid all that we’re living in the present, I am pausing today to give thanks for the joy of this day in 2015 when I was announced as the next Bishop of Gloucester @churchofengland Thank you @GlosDioc it is such a privilege to be here.."

Why do women clergy find it necessary to parade themselves on social media claiming to be privileged, proud, etc?

It is a privilege that has been abused, substituting feminism for Anglicanism. It is nothing to be proud of.

  2. Pride is the most serious of the Seven Deadly Sins and is epitomised by Lucifer the Devil.

  3. Very nice, but it's not about you Rachel, it's about serving God. You completely misrepresent the role of the Church which is to serve, not be served.

  5. Well isn't that lovely that she doesn't feel it's a burden like silly old S.Paul...

Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.

  6. I'm always struck by how many of the Church Fathers tried to avoid the role of Bishop considering themselves unworthy. Today there's a veritable queue of contenders and applicants who see it as their right.

    1. Nowadays it's nothing more than a smart career move with a greater salary and a better pension.

  8. The age of Twitter and Facebook encourages such things. Romans 12:2 comes to mind.

But not, apparently, to every Christian mind!

  9. But content of their gospel is 'Feminism Rules! We are feminists. The age of male domination is over for ever. Now it is OUR turn. Make way!'

Never mind about the incarnation. Revelation is secondary to OUR message!

  10. Further to earlier criticisms of Joanna Penberthy,I note that today she has sent her clergy another ad clerum, this time containng some suggestions as to how to pray at the present time. They bear the mark of sincerity and genuinely seem well intentioned. However, they would be ten times more valuable if she had included an apology for the perverse delight she takes in wounding retired priests time after time. It did not appear, which is a pity, because it nullifies part of what she wrote. In well known words, 'Don't tell me how, SHOW me!'
