Severe Police incident in Chapel Street earlier today plays havoc with parking and services at Llandaff Cathedral.

  4. ... and a Prosperous New Year to all, especially to the Canon Treasurer, Diocesan Secretary and Sub-Dean of Bangor who are, by coincidence, all the same bloke: the one who dresses up like Littlewoods Pools winner glitzy 'Spend, Spend, Spend' Viv. Nicholson ... and like her, wastes all the riches on buying more and more gaudy 'bling' for himself and St. Ikea Deiniol's. Same destiny awaits however ... bankruptsy.

  5. What is going on ( or not going on ) at Llandaff Cathedral? Another announcement, today, that tells us there will be no services in the cathedral but the cathedral will be open for visitors! Really bad management if ALL the cathedral clergy are rostered on a well earned (?) Holiday. Could no one be found on the Cathedral Green to offer a mass or even recite morning evening prayer ( still a canonical requirement as I understand ). Perhaps they are all out shopping for Easter Eggs ?

Not sure about Cardiff, but 'Majestic' bargain booze store up in Bangor has its January Sale on. No Easter Eggs yet but I could have sworn I saw a whole 'Chapter' of clerics adorning brown paper bags over their heads standing in the queue. This could explain it. Thanks to Xavier/Ruth for correcting my earlier mis-spelling. My brain is literate, but my typing fingers are Welsh ffonetic so type words as they hear them. It's a damnable thing.

  8. God must be having a well earned holiday. No services in Llandaff cathedral, again, today. Reminds me of the time I enquired of Bangor Cathedral why they did not have a daily Eucharist. The reply. We have a daily Eucharist on Wednesdays.

I’ve just counted the clergy in the caption competition photo. (‘All fur and no vicars’ the clear winner!) There are nine - enough for Holy Eucharist every day in the cathedral and two spares.

  10. Do you remember when all parishes celebrated the Red Letter Days after Christmas? St. Stephen, St. John, The Holy Innocents, The Circumcision or Naming of Jesus. We celebrated them in the ACC. Yes, it is a canonical requirement to say Morning and Evening Prayer daily.

Not such a prosperous New Year for the Rev. Paula Vennells ex CEO of the Post Office, brief holder of the CBE, once tipped to be Bishop of London etc. etc. etc. God forbid that she had been enthroned with what's now 'perceived' (pre full Inquiry) into her deplorable lack of management stills, ethics and honesty. Exposed not by her own integrity (as priest or businesswoman) but by a collective of 'little people' and again the clout of the media.

Perhaps AB this is deserving of a new conversation/discussion blog to replace the now tired Dec 24 issue?

    1. Which cretin(s) nominated her for an "honour" in the first instance?
For services to the Post Office and charities no less.
However, the "services" rendered appear to be more woke rubbish, as according to the Post Office itself, the honour was given for her work on "diversity and inclusion", and her "commitment to the social purpose at the heart of the business and her dedication in putting the customer first".
If she'd ignored the Stonewall tosh and put her honest hard-working sub Post masters first, perhaps four of them would still be alive today and another 700+ not falsely accused or wrongly convicted.

Possibly the same cretin, resident in Lambeth palace, that was allegedly considering her for the Bishop of London vacancy?

  13. @ AB

Further to my above, it seems that Rev Paula Vennells reluctantly withdrew from roles as an associate priest only after her then Bishop (of St Albans) the Rt Rev Alan Smith had consulted lawyers .... and then admitting his personal emotions: his mum had been a postmistress!! Nothing to do with whether a woman so lacking in humility, justice, forgiveness, etc. ought to be an ordained priest. An appalling situation if true (and as reports haven't been corrected, I assume they are true).

And then, while the whole Postmaster saga was unfolding, innocent victims were winning appeals against convictions and early questions being asked in Parliament the same woman had reached No.3 shortlisting for the third most senior position in the Church of England: Bishop of London (which comes with a seat in the House of Lords).

So thus, it appears that Ms/Rev Vennells didn't depart her 'Holy Orders' voluntarily but was rather persuaded to be shunted out because her bishop's mum was a sub-postmistress. Nor did she want to give back her CBE until 1.2m people signed a petition and she realised No. 10 wasn't on-side either. Doesn't say much for the woman ... god only knows what messages she'd preach from her pulpit?!

Give her time and she might pop up in Wales where with her track record she'll be bound to charm ++Andrew John into gifting her a Mary Stallard sized wigwam-mitre or instead of House of Lords ermine, some rat-fur from Cardinal ap Rhys-Evans cat-walk costume. All the Church of England says is: 'We don't comment on such matters'. Thankfully, Ancient Briton contributors are under no such restraint.

    1. If the unReverend rodent Paula Vennells finds herself at a loose end, typhoid Mary and slippery Dick the Sherry are looking for a new Lay Canon to pull another hot potato out of their latest fire.
With the Llandaff Cathedral CEO and COO coining in a cool £125k per annum between them, there's no money in it for anyone but it's probably more lthe level of her well publicised inabilities.
