Generally I find the BBC's coverage of soccer and their expenditure on overpaid commentators/pundits to be disproportionate but I take my hat off to 'football legend' Graeme Souness who has completed a swim across the English Channel to raise £1m for charity after highlighting the plight of 14 year old Isla Grist who suffers from rare skin disease Epidermolysis bullosa.
Souness broke down in tears when interviewed on the BBC's Breakfast show as he called it "the cruellest disease out there".
From BBC News: "Souness completed the 21-mile swim as part of a six-person relay team in 12 hours and 17 minutes. He took part in the team challenge, which included Isla's father, to raise money for Debra UK, which supports people with the disease, also known as butterfly skin."

Indeed so. I swim (badly) three times a week in a nice calm swimming bath and am exhausted by the end - this is in a totally different league!
ReplyDeleteA sad reflection on us all I think, that we can be so fast and volumous in our critical comments about the trivial little nonsenses of Anglican 'church' missionary that when AB points out something of true Christian gift - the gift of love, compassion, and Samaritan giving - the blogsite goes almost dead. Seems like many of us live to quibble and niggle about LGBTQ+ nonsenses, how much wine the deans of Llandaff and Bangor drink, the greed of bishops etc. but in the true work of being simply being decent humans, the silence of contributors seems to be ... 'move on AB, nothing much to say about this, let's have more whinging'. Disappointing.
