Welsh First Minister, Mark Drakeford, eagerly jumped on the Scottish gender recognition band wagon suggesting that Wales should have its own self-identification system.
Proposed plans to make it simpler for someone to legally change their gender were subsequently unveiled by the Welsh government despite much criticism of Nicola Sturgeon's stance.
More recently the Welsh government announced that major road building projects in Wales are to be scrapped in a move to 'put environment first'.
That is reminiscent of the First Minister's decision to scrap the M4 relief road around Newport in South Wales leading to "permanent tailbacks on the M4".
Described as a 'Kick in the teeth' for North Wales the latest move has again attracted some well deserved criticism that citizens have been ignored.
The best thing the First Minister of Wales could do is to once again follow the lead of the Scottish First Minister and resign taking his crackpot obsessions with him.

Delete24 years of Welsh Labour incompetence and all they do is blame Westminster.
AB we ought not to park the entire blame on Mark Drakeford but rather the people of Wales who for twenty years and more have time and again voted in a motley mob of Labour politicians. Why should Drakeford quit? His party's electioning record probably leads him to think that he's popular. But think too of Winston S Churchill's comment "Democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms ..." So while Wales has a voter base quite forgetful of other Welsh-Socialist failures like James Callaghan, Michael Foot, Neil Kinnock, we have a Welsh-Labour Senedd and the alternative option of a Plaid Cymru devolved parliament is an even worse prospect.
ReplyDeleteLets not stop at wishing Mark Drakeford out. Lets aspire to rid Wales of the whole charade of a Welsh Government; yes, even with the prospect of the Rt Hon. John Redwood of national anthem singing fame being returned as Secretary of State!!!

Abolish the Welsh Assembly. It costs millions each year yet nothing distinctive has been achieved because of it.

Drakeford has said that he'll step down by the end of next year. At present he is getting over the sudden death of his wife so I don't think he should be hard-pressed into making a decision. Sturgeon's departure must be giving him food for thought though.

DeleteCan we blame Drakeford and the Senedd for the deplorable and even dire straights of Welsh rugby, the WRFU etc. while we're at it? I was tempted to blame the 'out of touch' bishops of Wales, but then what do the LGBTQ+ pinkies know about that old Eddie Waring rugby term: 'up and under'!
