Reflecting on Lambeth 2022 the bishop of Monmouth, Cherry Vann, shares some of her initial thoughts in this video.
Still processing everything that happened there, Cherry says that there was much that was 'rich and inspiring'.
For her that was the greatly increased number of women bishops and the well publicised presence of seven LGBT+ bishops (up from just one at the previous conference) who were "taking a full part in the sessions making them feel very held in the fellowship of allies as well as the love and the prayers of many at home. "Thank you" she says, "Things are shifting, albeit slowly".
For the vast majority of the 85,000,000 Anglicans worldwide things are shifting too quickly and are unacceptable when biblical teaching is sacrificed for secular desires.
The Cherry picked items are an impediment to Christian unity and are changing Anglicanism from a Communion into a fellowship to please a minority whose motives are questionable.
Cherry concludes:
"Underpinning all this was the letter of 1 Peter and how its message of faith and hope in Christ in the midst of suffering, exile and persecution can sustain, inspire and strengthen our witness today. We left renewed in our desire to walk together, listen together and witness together so that we might truly be God's Church for God's world - today.!

Walking together for most bishops in minority western provinces means walking in step with them or leave the Church as the many unchurched Anglicans in Wales, England and elsewhere can testify.
A shorter statement from Cherry could have been 'Pull up the ladder girls, we are in the lifeboat' which is all that appears to matter to them while the majority of provinces follow the traditional path of The Great Commission.
Clueless.

As I've posted previously on this site, I gave up on Anglicanism decades ago, because, if I can utilize Daniel 5:25, I realized the nature of the writing on the wall.
DeleteBut my other half has chosen to stick with it, with the consequence that I know her parish priest - or now, to adopt the contemporary parlance, her ministry leader.
He's actually a lovely a genuine guy, who toils away with real vision and genuine holiness at least, that's how he comes over to me. But my other half tells me that he's recently said that he'd give the Church in Wales roughly five years before disintegration engulfs it.
Here's hoping he retires beforehand.

A breakaway from the 'Anglican' world communion. Still Anglicans, but without Canterbury and pinko-priests. True Aussies.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be wonderful to see +Monmouth try and hold her own in debate with the likes of Barry Humphries, Sir Les Patterson and Crocodile Dundee. She might find suckers to convert to Lesbianism here in Wales - many of them - but not with them I guess. And what's more bullish about the Australian revolution is their honesty in admitting how the dire drop-off of Anglican membership has coincided with their own falling standards in Scripture obeyance introuced by the liberals.
++John should take note and ++Welby be on warning.

Total blindness to what the Church is actually for - spreading the Gospel message, Seems interested only in promoting herself and her LGBT friends within the Church, and quoting St Paul to justify it all. Quite perverse.

Maybe the person that Cherry was listening to sounded as boring as she does in this video and she fell asleep when that person read the following from

For the sake of their souls and the souls of those that they are misleading I hope that these bishops that promote LGBT+ will read and understand the whole text from 1 Peter and the rest of the Bible and not just be selective in choosing text that they think suits their LGBT+ narrative.
That's a forlorn hope.

I thought it was a very balanced video to be fair. Yes she mentions sexuality but as is typical with Bishop Cherry, it’s not the main focus of her summary about Lambeth. Rather she speaks with considerable eloquence about colleagues in places around the world whose daily existence is one of hoping amidst struggle. I was profoundly moved by what she had to say. And Monmouth is possibly the happiest and most settled Diocese in the province.

On the contrary DD, the bishop sets the scene by first talking about the 'sheer diversity', ie, inclusivity, of those present including spouses, another hot topic which resulted in the Welsh contingent taking separate accommodation because of Cherry's same sex partnership.
DeleteIt would be extraordinary if Cherry did not show some sympathy for less fortunate bishops struggling abroad but where is the sympathy for those in her own backyard from whom sacramental and pastoral support was withdrawn for upholding biblical truths which are at variance with her self-satisfying interpretation of scripture?
There is no recognition or acknowledgement of the cost to the many tens thousands of orthodox anglican christians resulting from the presence of the 96 bishopesses and the seven homosexuals.

DeleteOh when the bishop mentioned “diversity” I thought she meant just that ie the diversity of the global church. I didn’t automatically assume it was lgbt diversity. In fact what she focuses on is the diversity of circumstance more than anything else. As I say I for one enjoyed it. Also loved her hanging basket - either she or her wife is very green fingered.

She sounds as though she is trying to convince herself at least as much as she is anyone else with her self-serving drivel.
DeleteShe seems quite an unhappy person, struggling with her inclinations which she probably knows in her heart are not for the best. Her reaction then is to 'hit out' at the establishment - in effect blame us all and seek to convince us, because by so doing she convinces herself. A distinct lack of joy and a sadness.

What comes across to me is not in the least bit sad. I get the sense of a quiet and unassuming integrity. A person who has no doubt been hurt by the kind of sentiments we often see expressed here. And yet a person who has steered a path through that kind of animosity and emerged the other side, her integrity intact and finding herself somewhat of a survivor, wearing a mitre. Breathtaking really.

DeleteTo those of us who are not 'Dotty Dorothy' or others scrawling through the Bible searching for quotations debunking the theologies of Mad Mullah Bishops there is strength and hope in St Paul's Letter (2) to the Thessalonians - 2. [15-17] - in which St. Paul might even have had the Ancient Briton blogsite in mind when he refers to 'letters'.
