Defender of the Faith!

Dechrau Canu, Dechrau Canmol (Welsh for 'Start Singing, Start Praising') is a television series featuring congregational Christian singing in the Welsh language. The programmes "celebrate important festivals and dates in the Christian calendar" and place on film the celebration of important national and international occasions where the music is of a devotional and religious nature.

The edition on Sunday 16 April celebrated Ramadan. An odd combination given that in Islam "the content of the song should not be against the morals and teachings of Islam."

There was a rendition of Let there be peace on earth, perhaps a nod to the so-called religion of peace which occurs when all become Muslims through submission. "The fundamental problem is that the majority of otherwise peaceful and law-abiding Muslims are unwilling to acknowledge, much less to repudiate, the theological warrant for intolerance and violence embedded in their own religious texts."

Filmed at Atlantic College in South Wales, students were encouraged to fast so that they could take part in the Muslim Eid al-Fitr celebration (the feast of fast-breaking). A student organiser said: "It's important because it unites us as a school community and as a Muslim community." Over half the students took part when Muslim prayers are offered.

A Muslim chaplain emphasised "one thing that will be very important in the future is to have a full Welsh translation of the Quran. Some smaller chapters have been translated but a Welsh Quran would show that Islam is also a Welsh religion"!

Cultural jihad has the gullible falling over themselves to welcome other faiths while Christianity is under attack.

Just over a week ago the Chapter of Manchester Cathedral had to apologise for allowing the Muslim call to prayer to be made in the cathedral at an interfaith event. This was not an isolated incident among those who should know better.

In the Holy Land Church leaders have spoken out about an increase in anti-Christian incidents including attacks on holy sites, schools and even funeral processions.

Persecution.Org reports: "44 People Killed in Jihadist Attack in Burkina Faso", adding to the growing number of Islamist terrorist attacks. See list of Islamist terrorist attacks.

The last thing Christians need is for the Sovereign and supreme governor of the Church of England to lapse like its bishops and turn his Christian coronation service into another multi-faith event which benefits other faiths to the detriment of our own.

Postscript [18.04.2023]

52,250 Nigerian Christians murdered since 2009      18,000 churches set on fire

"The attacks have led to mass forcible displacement. About 5 million Christians have been displaced and forced into Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps within Nigeria and refugee camps at regional and sub-regional borders, the Intersociety report says."

  1. Charles never been a Defender of THE Faith due to being too busy talking to his plants.
Christianity is dying in his realm and he's just standing by and watching it.

  2. Manchester Cathedral called out for allowing prayer, but St Asaph Cathedral are hosting an 18+ eighties disco with full bar facility. I know which I would support.

There you are. Something for Charles to mention at his coronation.

  5. Since some faiths are worse than no faith it is absurd to defend faith per se. The faith of which Henry VIII was originally defender was that of St Thomas More.

    1. If only Christian school children were so busy bullying and proselytising muslim kids!
Then the PC social workers and BBC would be all over them like a rash.

    2. Are there any Christian school children left?
Even if there are, they will be too scared to stand up for themselves in case they get cancelled!

  8. For those who follow the YouTube channel "The Pastor's Heart", may I recommend the interview on 18th April with the new Bishop Stuart Bell. How refreshing to hear a Welsh Bishop speak about a new movement for Anglicanism in Wales.
Bishop Bell reveals that the Chocolate Teapot wrote to him to tell him that Bell's consecration brought him "no joy". What an obnoxious worm the Teapot has revealed himself to be.

    1. Oh the irony.
The consecration of the chocolate teapot brought "no joy" to the entire population of Wales.

    4. What a weak leader Andy seems to be in that he offers very little - no intellect, no fire, nothing to draw people to him, completely compromised, de-evangelical and insipid. A totem of what the CinW has become.
King Charles has little faith to defend in Anglicanism.

    5. The chocolate teapot has been an obnoxious worm for decades, that's why so many clergy have vacated the Bangor Diocese.

One wonders when one might be reading in the Western Mail of the chocolate teapot having glued himself to the West door of Bangor Cathedral?

    1. When was the last time a Mosque opened its doors for a Christian Mass to be celebrated?
      Or a Jewish passover meal?

  12. Oddly enough Enoch - as I think I might have mentioned many blogs ago - when working in the Middle East I was privileged enough to meet and later be invited to become 'best friends' with multi-millionaire devout Moslem Mr. Jaweed al Ghussain who - when not running his own massive UAE construction company - was also financial director of the non-aggressive political side of the PLO. Very, very influential. Jaweed - who shared his time living in London and New York - became concerned with the large number of Filipino and other non-Arab Christian domestic workers working in Abu Dhabi and Dubai where there was no facility for them to prayer to 'their' God. Our God. For no other reason than his own respect for his God 'Allah' he both financed and then had built a magnificent Roman Catholic 'cathedral' in the UAE also sorting out the local licences and permits and defusing objections for its purpose. It still exists.

What a magnificent gesture of respect from the world of Islam to our Christian belief. No, Jaweed wasn't a UAE national. He was Palestinian. Sadly - certainly to my circle of so decent friends - now dead. But worth looking up on Google or whatever as outstanding example of a very decent man .... and answer, I hope Enoch, to your question. With perhaps more experience of living and working in the Middle East over umpteen years than most Ancient Briton snipers, I can vouch that those of Islamic faith have more appreciation and respect for Christians than we do of them. I fear you've been reading too many red-top tabloid hysterical headlines.

But it was certainly one way of avoiding holding any sort of ecumenical activity in any Mosque.

  14. For the same reason FM and Enoch that we Christians ought to uphold our own scriptures. Moslems are strict to their teachings that they should worship only one God, 'Allah' ... as I thought we were supposed to. Difference is, they adhere strictly to their belief whereas we Anglicans (and Manchester Cathedral more so perhaps) waffle around however best we think it might suit our purpose or whims. And which Moslem would want his Mosque adorned with icons and images of our white-haired, bearded God, or Christ just for the purpose of some ecumenical wheeze. They respect us, let us ... do thine likewise.

My last church (in Eastern England) had good relations with the local mosque, largely made up of people from a Bangladeshi background. They arranged several visits for us, both to hear about their beliefs and to show us their prayer hall. They also arranged a meeting in a local school for the former Anglican bishop of Jerusalem to speak about the interface between faiths in Israel/Palestine. We arranged events at our own church, one of which was a "demonstration" Christian service including hymns, prayers, Bible readings and a sermon. Much to our surprise most of them asked for service sheets so they could join in the responses, even though we'd said they needn't do so. Afterwards we had a "friendship tea" at which questions were fired at the local Vicar and myself - the first being to explain our understanding of the Trinity! At no time were either Christians or Muslims expected to deny or water down their respective faiths - quite the opposite in fact.
