Favoured clergy

Source: Church in Wales Monmouth Diocese News

Inclusion and diversity give way to exclusivity at the bishop of Monmouth's LGBTQIA+ social evening to be held at the bishop's residence next month.

Imagine the outcry from allegedly discriminated against LGBTQIA+ people if there were a social evening for straight clergy and their partners at which gay and lesbian clergy were excluded.

Reading the bishop's invitation one wonders just how many gay and lesbian clergy there are if guests are directed to use an overflow carpark around the cathedral.

Postscript [27.04.2023]

"Bishop of Monmouth Cherry Vann will celebrate communion,..
It is open to LGBTQIA+ people and allies of any Christian tradition, or none."

Better to be queer than Christian in the Church in Wales which continues to discriminate against Anglicans who remain faithful to biblical teaching and tradition.

Pity that Pope Francis is foolishly stepping out onto the very slippery slope.

How could they return to that with which they have never been acquainted?

  5. I might pop along. Sure I’m a heterosexual man and not ordained, but who’s to say I can’t identify as a lesbian vicar that day?

  9. It would be interesting to know who is paying for the drinks and canape's at the bishop's little soiree. One would hope that the cost is not coming out of Diocesan funds.

Come up to Bangor, there has been a lot of expenditure lately, much of it on wine I believe. Many of us are interested in where the funds are coming from. A recent comment from a long term member of the Cathedral congregation was “what has happened to our Easter Vestry where finances used to be published? We haven’t had the opportunity to ask questions for a long time.

Dick the Dean in Llandaff continues to organise post-Eucharist sherry in the Lady Chapel but who's covering any shortfall is anyone's guess.

    2. The latest accounts reveal the Llandaff Dean & Chapter approved a budget with a £109k deficit for the last financial year but I see no record of the missing £70k having been recovered or an "Entertainment" budget that would cover Dick the Dean's Lady Chapel sherry parties.

  13. What arrogant lives you non-LGBTQ+ contributors lead! You don't have the first notion of the courage it has taken for LGBTQ+ people to dare to live dignified, transparent and holy lives.

I for one don't actually ask for favour as AB puts it, but simply the right to be treated with basic human respect. Many of you cannot muster even that. AB refuses, for example, to publish on this blog the 'fact' that atleast one of +Bell's daughters is lesbian - one is a highly acclaimed creative writer and lecturer at Birbeck, London and has published an anthology of her poems detailing her courageous experience as a daughter of a homophobic priest. AB silences that and refuses to publish it.

    4. LG. There is no argument against individual homosexual people. What they do - as for us all - is between themselves and God. They are just as loved.
You seem to have no notion that the real argument is about equal marriage, etc, the desire to make homosexuality as normal and acceptable as heterosexuality when clearly it isn't.

    5. I'm homosexual and faithfully married for 15+ years, I can't claim an equality of marriage, but I ask for the same dignity. I love my husband dearly and am the richer and the better for having married him. Does that make me less?

  15. Odd isn't it that in most major towns and cities, LGBTQ+ types gravitate to Gay Bars and Gay Strip Joints, and 'straights' frequent those where they feel comfortable without transvestites sitting alongside them or cross-dressing males lifting their frocks to have a pee at the urinals. The beer-brewing industry and night-time economy has figured this one out ... and it works well. Everyone happy.

Its surely not beyond the wit of the LGBTQ+ lobby and intelligence of Bishops to follow suit. Nice 'pinko' rainbow-altar church for LG and his homosexual friends, and a healthy no 'aggro', no WOKE church for the straights. Problem might be in Wales of course; finding enough 'Straight' clergy to officiate at the hetrosexual orientated churches.

And second thought, as with the selection of constituency Members of Parliament and even (dare I say it Zebedee) the Police Service, diocesan bishops should begin to ordain new priests according to demographic need: ie % new entrants based on diocesan numbers of gays in the community; % based on the known mix of evangelical v. high Anglo-catholic etc. Instead of this, our Bishops seem to simply thrust clergy of whatever orientation or theology/divinity at the parishes without a hoot's care who or what the congregants are or think. Madness. Not surprising that most Britons (Ancient or not) prefer the security and comfort of a well defined pub comfortable to their standards than spend an hour in a church where liturgy and sermonising is totally contrary to belief.

    1. Our "bishops" have little from which to choose given the paucity and generally dismal quality of those ordinands coming out of St. Padarn's school of social work, wokery and buggery.
Peggy the Pilate and her coven demanded that any ordinand who would not accept women's ministry should be turned away in any case. Even if that never became official policy from the GB, a £1 to a 1p it's happening anyway.
Just look at the way Calvin Robinson was blatantly mistreated by Mullaly in London.
