Already anticipating her own retirement as Bishop of Llandaff, June Osborne rushed into the appointment of a new dean after the resignation of the Dean of Llandaff, Gerwyn Capon, in May 2022.
One would imagine that with hindsight the bishop now regrets the above video presentation. On 31st March 2024, after another difficult period for Llandaff Cathedral, the retirement of Dean Richard Peers was announced.
From the tone of the announcement it is clear that deviancy in the Church in Wales has become the norm: "Father Richard has been the Dean of Llandaff since November 2022 and lives with his husband Jim, a garden writer, and their dog Teilo."
A patron of The Open Table Network, Cherry Vann, the Bishop of Monmouth who lives with her civil partner Wendy and their two dogs, invites all to a diocesan celebration with the logo 'Faith in our future'.
The archbishop of Wales has predicted that same-sex couples could marry in church 'within five years'.
For Anglicans in Wales who do not accept the new norm of a secularised Church in Wales but keep the Christian faith as received the future is bleak.
Postscript [07.04.2024]
The bishop of Llandaff has announced that the Rev’d Canon Dr Jason Bray has accepted her invitation for him to become the next Dean of Llandaff Cathedral.
Sounds good for dogs.
ReplyDeleteOne needs to remember that Caiaphas was completely taken in by the Capon and Mr Toad, at least initially, especially concerning the factually correct complaints made to the Charity Commissioners by David Jones and David Lambert about the alleged Organ Appeal frauds and the failure to keep and produce accounts.
ReplyDelete"I am the accuser" was the claim.
Let her be damned.
Vomit inducing verbiage from both.

ReplyDeleteCall me old fashioned if you like, but isn’t it illegal to appoint someone to a job without advertising it?
ReplyDeleteRather like serving Sherry in the Lady Chapel without an alcohol licence.
DeleteNo it isn’t illegal to appoint without advertising first
DeleteSo much for openness, transparency and a competitive interview process.
DeleteMaybe not illegal but certainly immoral.
DeleteSuits the cult in Wales down to the ground.
Neither illegal nor immoral. The right of appointment of a Dean is that of the Bishop. She was not bound to run a “competitive interview process” and was entitled to form the view that the Cathedral required the prompt appointment of a highly respected priest rather than the delay that such a process would cause.
DeleteRB
That's precisely how Llandaff ended up with Janet "nine weeks" Henderson, Gerwhine "the gold caddy and Aga saga" Capon and the sixteen month wonder slippery Dick the Sherry.
Delete🤣 🤣 🤣
I'm a member of the Cathedral congregation and relieved that Bishop Mary made such a swift and wise appointment. As a native Welsh Anglican, I also respect the fact that we will have a Dean who has served all his ministry here in Wales.
DeleteI also hate to think who would have thought themselves eligible to apply, had there been an interview process. I did hear a few names mentioned in the week that elapsed between the Dean Richard's retirement annoucement and this new appointment, and to say my heart sank at the mention of some named was an understatement.
We need to get behind Canon Bray and make this appointment work. There's every indication that the future is a stable one. It has been a turbulent five or so years. Enough.
Oudoceus
A turbulent five years????
DeleteTry a disastrous twenty years.
Or more.
Clown.
My apologies Pewster, I've only been attending the Cathedral for the last five years. What do you make of the announcement?
DeleteOudoceus the Clown
After only 70+ years attending Llandaff Cathedral, it's too early to tell.

Too little too late.
With all the clergy of the diocese of Llandaff away on a jolly this week leaving their flocks with no services over Ascensiontide for the first time in living memory (estimated cost £100k), one assumes the new Bishop of Llandaff has never heard of a Holy Day of Obligation. Sadly, I cannot say I'm surprised.
