Queering the Church in Wales

"Celebrating Faith, Hope & Love - An Open Table celebration of communion
with OTN Patron Bishop Cherry Vann "  Source: Twitter

In a tweet from the Diocese of St Asaph applicants are invited to join the bishops of St Asaph & Monmouth for a special 'Open Table' event in November hosted by the LGBTQIA+ Chaplaincy in the Church In Wales Diocese of St Asaph.

In the illustration above the holy sacrifice of the Mass is merged into LGBT rainbow colours as if to emphasis the bishops' recent victory at Governing Body which approved the blessing of same sex unions.

Open Table issues its invitation to 'come as you are' to a 'Communion service led by Right Revd Gregory Cameron, Bishop of St Asaph', a 'Reflection by Right Revd Cherry Vann, Bishop of Monmouth, Patron of Open Table Network' which will  be 'Followed by a simple lunch, conversation and a chance to meet the Bishops'.

Bishop Cameron proposed the motion at Governing Body to allow blessings of same sex unions. In doing so he led Anglicans astray using unorthodox, poor theology which speaks volumes of the unanimous vote of the bishops and two thirds majority of clergy who voted in favour of the motion.

The event is 'Supported by the Open Table Network, a growing partnership of Christian worship communities which welcome and affirm people who are: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, & Asexual (LGBTQIA) + our families, friends and all our allies'.

Other Church in Wales worshippers are left out in the cold.

If you keep the faith as a traditional Anglican or, more recently, as an evangelical you have to "find accommodation as best they can" as the Ven Peggy Jackson put it with all the charity she could muster.

What is the driving force behind queering the Church in Wales? It has become the Great Commission in reverse, driving out the many to welcome the few who interpret the bible as they please to achieve their own ends.

One clue may be in the same-sex extracurricular activities in the St Michael's class of 1984 from which three students were to go on to comprise 50% of the bench of bishops. A bench that would later go on to appoint two LBGTQIA+ campaigning women as bishops followed by a partnered lesbian who is to share a reflection at the Open Table event.

That is not to point the finger at anyone, rather it is to query whether such non-biblical practices became accepted as normal behaviour at theological college.

Whatever the reason, the current position is beyond parody when LGBTQIA+ people and their supporters are courted as the faithful.

CinW bishops have lost all credibility.

  1. As its "open table" perhaps both of the regular worshippers in the Church in Wales should turn up. The blurb does promise "a very healthy dose of conversation and discussion, all in a safe, sacred space."

  2. PP. Interesting topic. But, I am puzzled by inference of " same sex extracurricular activities". Reading the back link concerning the ordaining, Dr Childs' was a man for all seasons. I knew him personally and found him to be beyond reproach.
St Michael's alway had a dubious history regarding its extracurricular events, I'm sure most long standing Churchmen can recall the whispers. But, that was decades past.
Does it make for assumption towards current trends? I think not.
The OTN, is a body that offers support to any person regardless of sexuality, in the main, those who have had a need to seek help following abuse at all levels. It's more a "safe space" not some separatist conclave. There are traditionalist in its membership who are equally welcome. But, I do agree that LGBTQI+ does have a higher profile at this time. But, is this anti-church? Or, a simple mission strategy to welcome into the Church? Do traditionalists have a similar strategy, if not why not - ?

"The Bishop has decided to cancel the in-person session of the Diocesan Conference, due to be held at Saint Deiniol’s Cathedral in Bangor."

Grab this opportunity with both hands. And they will do us a special LGBT Eucharist as well.

  6. Speaking of queering the Church in Wales, there's still no sight nor sound of the dud in the Llandaff Deanery.
That's 18 months MIA for the golf caddie and 3 months for DodoJo.
Anyone would think the plank sitters don't know what to do.

    ReplyDelete
  7. PP Think of the cost to the Church for 18 months of sick pay? Would be in exit talks in any other job. 3 months is also a hefty slice for doing nothing at an episcopal level .
Could the solution to both be S&B get Jo and the double whammy a new Dean? S&B Dean retires once the new B is safely in post.

I can see an extension to the Bishops retirement age as this bench in will now do their own thing. Watch out Juno, could be our next ++ . I don't put anything beyond this bench"s decisions.

  8. In the case of the dud in the Llandaff Deanery, I wouldn't assume that it's sick pay. If the rumours of investigations, tribunals and hearings (that Juno is losing) are true, then it could well be suspension on full pay pending investigation etc.

Announcing his expulsion, the Bishop of Llandaff June Osborne said: "In the light of the exceptional seriousness of his conduct, the tribunal found that Nigel should be deposed from Holy Orders and expelled from the office of a Cleric of the Church in Wales in accordance with the relevant section of the constitution."

  11. PP. This article appeared over weekend regarding a matter of closing Churches in rural parishes in St Asaph Diocese. As we debate the modern focus of the bench, this leaving rural centres without church or means except "pilgrim Church status + whatever new gimmick that is) then huge resources going into the new expression thanks to the Evangelism fund, like the new Wrexham church , opposite the Parish Church, makes no sense. Surely mission needs to be at the heart of community, not the centre of a town with an already successful Parish Church across the street. The article link is below

    No Churches.
    No Parishes.
    No Priests.
    No Bishops.
    No Christianity.

Gays, lesbians, transgender, questioning, non-binary, asexual, pansexual, metrosexual aplenty though.

All achieved in less than fifty years.

    1. All achived in less than 50 years, youare so Right. In byegone years those who didn't agree or accept the Bible or the Practices of the Anglican Church, left it, and formed their own ministry. Now it appears the Church, in Wales, or,of England, has to accept those of a Sexual Intent totally against the Scripture as laid down in The Bible.

Even the comics and super heroes are being "queered".
This is obviously propaganda to persuade children and teenagers that homosexuality is now mainstream and normal.

My friends daughter came home from high school recently and declared she was going to have to "come out" as straight because she felt under so much pressure from staff and peers to conform to at least being gender questioning.

  16. PP. Whatever happened to little boys playing with sisters dolls and sister playing with brothers action man That's "normal learning in play. Does it harm of course not, the child learns the wider world. Unfortunately in this day and age the child is matched down the GP, and that trans train leaves the station at break neck speed. Soon the child is in a skirt at school and called daisy instead of David!
What has happened to society, normal child socialisation has become conditioning once the slightest glint of rising feminine traits are acted out. . it's normal, not a cry for help from a child suffering body dis-morphia
Woke has a lot to answer.

The Church should be firm on this gender fluid nonsense, you don't see other religions banging this drum!
Gay and Lesbian or bi-sexuality has acceptance through the equality measures, why are we now adding the "TQ etc etc?
I'm not anti homosexual, but I just cannot grasp this additional parade of sexual nonsense.
The Church clearly notes: God made, male and female however, on a behavioural spectrum, some men are more feminine and some women are more masculine.and follow out in life those traits.
Celebrate the nature of being human not boxing everything into confined little corners. Celebrate the life of faith, share that faith and be Christ in a uncertain World.

Now the 'queers' are going on the offensive.
They don't merely want equality but now they want to dictate terms to the silent majority.

    It was ever thus.

  20. Ancient Briton, most posters on this site have a major disagreement with the current direction the Church in Wales, lead by the Bench of Bishops is taking. Perhaps, the Direction is aided by the Representative Body of the Church in Wales, at Callaghan Square. Instead of infighting, perhaps now is a time of solidarity. Perhaps it is time for those of us who do not agree with the avenue the Church in Wales is taking, should have an avenue where we can directly object.

  21. PP. As excellent as this blog is even though we frequently have skirmishes, in good faith and respect. No one I'm aware of wants to see the Church fail and fall any further into the quagmire of secularism and "woke/pc " ways.
However, perhaps a new addition might be a physical presence, like "the Prayer book Society", but, a Welsh melding of interested parties and minds who want to ensure that the CiW hears, acts and acknowledges the traditionalist worshiper as equally a part of the greater Church, rather than marginalised, for the sake of LGBTQI agenda's.

How, it is done, started, role is not for me to decide. I am simply raising an opinion - so no thunder blasts, please!

    1. I, for one, will be quite happy to see the Church in Wales collapse under the weight of its own filth and corruption.
It is certainly not the Church or the faith received in which I was brought up and it will be no loss to Wales when it goes.
I urge you to stop your giving altogether and walk away.
The CinW simply isn't listening and isn't going to.

    2. As I see it, PP, I want no truck with the CiW, whether the Prayer Book Society or any other society is involved. The CiW is an apostate organization led by apostate hirelings. They are no shepherds of the flock. I will not receive communion in the CiW because the hirelngs and their Governing Body excommunicated me with the decision they made on 6 September. That day, Jesus - the true Lord of the Church - was evicted, and his teaching was thrown out. Instead of standing up for the truth, the four hirelings present colluded with the lie, and even encouraged it. Like 1662, I pray for the collapse of the CiW, and for the Lord to remove the lampstand from its place. The people of Wales deserve better; but most importantly, the Lord Jesus Christ deserves better.

    1. PP, To receive communion within the Church in Wales one is supposed to be in communion with the celebrant who, in turn, is in communion with their bishop - unless, of course, we have now gone down the road anything goes. This too, is linked to apostolic succession, which ultimately leads us back to being in communion with Christ. The bishops of the CiW, or rather the hirelings, are apostates, and it is not possible to receive communion from an apostate, unless you wish to be part of their apostacy. I don't. When I was baptized, I promised to fight against sin, the world and the devil, and to remain faithful to Christ to the end of my life. The hirelings and the Governing Body obviously forgot that part of their Christian commitment.
