Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn Source: Independent/PA |
Diane Abbott, Shadow Home Secretary and former lover of party leader, Jeremy Corbyn has been conspicuous by her absence in the General Election campaign.
An Express report suggests: “They have hidden Diane Abbott from the cameras, not only because her son was arrested after allegedly biting a police officer, but because she literally makes no sense at all when she speaks. And yet she is the shadow home secretary, who in a few days might find herself in charge of the country’s police forces and MI5, which she once said should be abolished."
According to the MailOnline, Abbott's privately-educated son, 28, was arrested after 'biting one police officer and spitting at another outside Foreign Office' where he used to work. He was bailed to appear back in front of magistrates in February by which time his mother could be Home Secretary.
There have been too many instances when Abbott's bungling have given the impression that she is simply not up to the job, examples here and here, but old loyalties may prevail.
Someone might think you were making a political point there ...
ReplyDeleteHowever I agree that Abbott does seem to have been notable by her absence (as indeed does Jacob Rees-Mogg). Perhaps she is "higher profile" in the London media?
My hunch is that since each seems prone to 'foot and mouth disease', both have been edged away from any potentially embarrassing spotlight!
DeleteMind you - and of course speaking quite subjectively! - I'm disinclined to give any significant weight to the pronouncements or opinions of either the 'Mail' or the 'Express'.
Surprise, surprise!

“I’m disinclined to give any weight to the pronouncements of either the ‘Mail’ or the ‘Express’” ... or the BBC, or the Guardian, Independent, Times, Telegraph, Sun, Mirror, ES etc etc etc. To misquote Churchill, the Mail and the Express are the very worst and most biased sources of news - apart from all the others.
ReplyDeleteIt's always prudent to maintain scepticism about how the news is presented, whatever the medium. As there's no 'pure' history guaranteed to be free of bias, so there's no 'pure' news reporting!
DeleteHaving said that, I prefer Channel 4 News's reporting and coverage over the rest of the mainstream media. It seems to me to combine rigour and balance better than the rest.
A Corbyn supporter would say that!

Not sure whether that's directed at Daisy or at me, but just for the record I'm not a Corbyn supporter! These days no political party really engages me, though some strike me as considerably more dire than others.
DeleteI did vote Labour in 2017, though. A one-off.
As for me, I am just sitting back to greet all of the benefits promised by the Brexiteers. You have a lot to deliver in a very short time. But if these benefits don't appear, I'm sure The Remainders will get the blame.
