Government defends right of street preachers

Christian preacher arrested in London and Bible confiscated                                    Source: Premier.

In February I wrote about a Christian street preacher who was arrested at Southgate station London N14 for preaching about Jesus, saving people from hell.

The police told him he was breaching the peace because he was being "islamophobic".

Protests have been heard. From Premier:

"The government is defending the right of street preachers after a man was arrested in London last month and had his Bible confiscated.

"Responding to a question from MP Theresa Villiers, Home Office Minister Nick Hurd said people are free to follow their religious beliefs provided they do so within the law.

"It's currently legal to preach on the streets in the UK.

"In a written question, Theresa Villiers asked: 'With reference to the arrest and release of Oluwole Ilesanmi in Enfield, what steps he is taking to ensure that church groups can preach on the street.'

"In the response, Nick Hurd said: "The Government does not prevent individuals from following their religious beliefs or cultural traditions provided they do so within the law.

" 'The diversity of modern Britain is one of our strengths and many British people of different faiths follow religious codes and practices. The right to freedom of expression is a vital part of a democratic society. It is a long-standing tradition in this country that people are free to share their views with others'."

Something loudly demonstrated here.

  1. They dumped him 5 miles from Southgate with no money after 'dearresting' him. Luckily someone gave him his bus fare home. Would they dare snatch a Koran from a true hate preacher?

Meanwhile, in Cardiff, Caiaphas is doing away with her own preachers and importing new ones from Brompton.

    1. I'm not sure Holy Trinity Brompton is the style of Llandaff Diocese and their new 'bishop': far too much biblical content! Surely there is more to this than St Teilo's web-site says?

    2. The very first thing the congregation of St Teilo's should do is to withold their Parish share from the Diocese that has betrayed them.
The second is to put their money into a fighting fund to buy their Church premises and leave the Church in Wales altogether.

    3. Caiaphas must go!20 March 2019 at 13:58

Why does Caiaphas want to dispose of a successful church with a thriving community spirit and wide variety of well supported activities who have managed to obtain over 500 signatures for their petition within 48 hours of launch?

Surely Caiaphas would prefer to be rid of a dysfunctional parish that is struggling to pay its way and maintain the fabric of the building and a morally bankrupt cesspit of corruption with a a rapidly shrinking electoral roll and congregation?

      Like Llandaff Cathedral!

    4. St. Teilo's congregation should tell Caiaphas to go forth and multiply.

    5. The people in the congregation of St Teilo's who have hitherto followed and supported the party three line whip that they must be all inclusive, welcoming to gays, transgenders, priestesses, wiccans, crystal faith healers, water diviners, druids, metal detectors, vegetarians, vegans, Cybermen, Daleks, goldfish, paedophiles, sorcerers and anything else you could possibly think of, have just discovered the hard way that the Church in Wales hierarchy just don't give a flying f**k about anyone but themselves and their twisted perverted agenda.
Just how bad does it have to get before the dozy pewsters wake up and smell the coffee?

    6. One wonders if the Brompton happy clappers have made a successful bid for a slice of the £10 million giveaway?
How else would their hostile takeover of St. Teilo's be financed?
And 'Caiaphas must go!' makes a very valid point - when are this year's Llandaff Cathedral accounts due to be published?
One feels certain 'The Bursar' will have some further interesting insights to offer.

  3. I think there are questions to be asked about Bishop June and her actions, i.e. this case, away days, Santiago, etc.
