The caption in this morning's Church Times is 'Bishop of Monmouth to Return to Work in February.' I wonder whether he will be given the chance to begin with a clean sheet and clear the shark infested custard?

    1. I understand the dean has the authority to physically keep the bishop out of the cathedral?

  10. To see priests clowning around in Eucharistic vestments is sad and disrespectful. Fr Arthur Tooth, of blessed memory, went to prison to defend the right of Anglican clerics to wear vestments https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Tooth
Not only have these liberals stollen the church from the traditionalists, they mock our forefathers who fought to defend the Faith. As priests they are meant act persona Christi. By such behaviour they mock Our Lord. What a disgrace! They should be disciplined by their bishop … whoops, they don’t seem to have one! And even when they did, he also clowned around in Eucharistic vestments. They all lack gravitas.

  11. One of the saddest and most lamentable sites I have ever seen: allowed only because Monmouth has an absent and weak leadership. And there, grinning like a Cheshire cat is probably a future Canon of the cathedral; this must make past princes of the Church wonder was it all worth it. How far have we got to plummet before we have a leadership who will stop this unholy behaviour. Sad, sad, sad.

  12. PP. The behaviour is totally unacceptable in any priest. The Parish Priest certainly has discipline issues. The likes of the Oxford Movement who fought tooth and nail for such eucharistic respect, would be turning in there graves. Perhaps whoever is currently in charge should have very strong words. What about priests in other Anglo parishes, in the diocese surely they have voices. So much for priestly vocations.

  13. Sadly PP, pictured are the parish priest, also Area Dean of Bassaleg, and his assistant priest, part of 'the team' which includes the bishop of Monmouth who also cavorted in his Eucharistic vestments at the Petertide ordinations. See 'The big lie' https://ancientbritonpetros.blogspot.com/2018/08/the-big-lie.html
    and 'Petertide caption' https://ancientbritonpetros.blogspot.com/2018/06/petertide-caption.html
If the bishop does return to duties a few more complaints should arrive on the archbishop's desk.

    1. PP. Thank you AB. I agree with you. It's appalling behaviour. I do hope some leader on the bench takes umbridge and kicks butt. With no leader in Mon it seems a free for all, anything goes. The longer this goes on, he won't have even the skeletal remains of a once glorious diocese. If Derek Childs was on the throne, all heads would roll. Even Lord Williams would act heavily.

  14. What a tragically sad day for the C in W. This belongs to the genre of "Carry On" films and could be headed "Carry On Clerics." But seriously, who do these people think they are? Have they no awareness of the dignity of their calling? It beggars belief that these are the "leaders" of a once proud church! Recent posts on this blog paint a thoroughly depressing picture - the diocese of Monmouth faces a mutiny, Bangor seems to be totally disfunctional, the archbishop seems unable or unwilling to get a grip and we have two bishopettes who seem determined to subvert the sacrament of marriage for secular and sociological reasons. Perhaps the large sum of money which has been allocated to evangelism should, as a priority, be used to fund a course in theology for the clerics themselves.

  16. Nothing wrong with a little playfulness - but definitely not in vestments with incense. Are they ever serious about their worship? Surely the AB will discipline them.

  17. Really? This thread has reached a new low.In some places it's decades of clergy more interested in vestments than people that has caused the decline we are experiencing
Some of the comments here beggar belief - couldn't you all sod off and start your own church somewhere else? If any of you had any balls you'd have done so along time ago instead of your cowardly bitching on this less than Christian thread - however you try and defend it. Gravitas - pay, there's none to be found here. LS

    1. LS it's concerning that your nasty post does the very things you accuse contributors and the blog itself of doing. Also as regard the church, it belongs to Christ not any one group within it. If anyone should go ask yourself who has changed their beliefs on core doctrines of the Christian faith?

  19. I believe they are chalking superstitious nonsense on the door.
Makes a change from supporting sinning at Cardiff Pride.

What has the C in W become? Clerics faffing around in vestments like little boys playing dress up, actions such as this and dodgy theology that puts the feelings of the few above the faith of the many. Last one out, please turn of the lights.

    1. I agree Trad Anglican, it is superstitious nonsense and also encourages vandalism of the graffiti kind.
This morning I came out of a church somewhere in England with a fellow worshipper. He noticed on the door frame a chalked inscription 20CMB19. He asked me worriedly 'Is that Satanic graffiti?' He really thought some Satanist had daubed the graffiti on the church. After he walked away, I said to my husband, well it's the equivalent of hocus pocus.
This is the first time it has been done at our church and with no explanation or warning. Unfortunately one person has been pulling the strings over the past twelve months, a lot of secular vigils and services have been introduced eg LGBT vigils with no 'religion' so that everyone can feel welcome; an Advent carol service with poetry instead of Bible readings. The person pulling the strings rarely attends church. There is a reason for the influence that this person has, but I cannot be more specific here.

  20. Cymraes yn Lloeger - what a lot of unfounded, twee rubbish - encourages vandalism indeed - come out of your ivory tower into the 21st century, you'd have a far better chance of being an effective witness to the Faith you progress - though I as little sign of it. LA.

  21. Cymraes yn Lloeger- not abuse - merely responding to your judgement- if you don't want to open yourself to critique then simply don't post - plank and speck are the words that come to mind - and as for chequered life please don't assume that you are unique in that respect - we all have a story. LA.

  22. LA It is perfectly possible to post a contrary view without being abusive. I was agreeing with Trad Anglican's comment about superstition when you jumped in and belittled me and questioned my faith. I also did not claim (as you do) that my life story is unique. How about we start with my mother abandoning me at birth. Now go and pick on someone else if it makes you feel big!

  23. Really sorry to hear that...but this post proves my point...you cannot use your backstory to prop up prejudice and then use it to accuse others of picking on you...it is controlling and manipulative...as for me I lost my father young and suffered abuse at the hands of an addict...though I would never use either fact to try and enforce my opinions. This is my final comment on this thread. LA.
