Mark who?

Source: BBC

Whilst congratulating Finance Secretary Mark Drakeford on his election as leader of the Labour party in Wales and likely First Minister in succession to Carwyn Jones, it says much for Welsh politics and devolved government that many people in Wales, not to mention elsewhere, had to be told who he was.

Polling 53.9% of the vote in the second round after Eluned Morgan was eliminated Vaughan Gething the Secretary for Health and Social Services came a creditable second.

One must hope that the realisation of office will enable the First Minister to look beyond such matters as extending the smoking ban to town and city centres and giving the parents of newborn babies a 'bundle of essential items'.

The integration of health services and social care along with ending the M4 bottleneck for traffic coming into Wales need urgent attention. That is how he will put his name on the map, hopefully for the better.

  1. Mark said Wales could be a "beacon of hope in a darkening world" - what about a darkening Wales vis a vis education, health/social care, family (not just 'child') poverty, chronic transport infrastructure, disengagement with young people ... etc etc - a sincere chap, I'm told, but another symbol of Welsh Labour plodding along, taking its support base for granted ... sounds similar to CinW in many respects ...As for Plaid's new leader - genuine chap etc with a great manifesto, slick and 'professional' ... but again, out of touch with the masses ...

  2. Another career politician who has milked the Welsh electorate for successive terms to give himself a job for life. Recycled across various portfolios his appointment is about as inspiring as another episode of 'Pobl y Cwm'.

More of the same insipid, unimaginative diktats wrapped up in swathes of red tape and bureaucracy. His first act will probably to order a report on the report about how to write reports. Don't old your breath for any change guys other than someone less articulate in front of the media than the last one.

I want to know when the electorate will punish Labour for their failures in education, transport, business and health?
