Jolly June's Iceland gender jolly

I see from the Llandaff diocese web site that as we approach the season of Advent 'jolly' June's preparation for Christmas is another jolly, this time in Iceland from where she grandly tweeted:

"Such a pleasure to meet Bishop Agnes Sigurdardottir, the first woman bishop of the Church of Iceland and Porvoo colleague whilst at the Global Women Leaders’ Forum @ChurchinWales #PowerTogether @LlandaffCath".

I can understand June's affinity with the first woman bishop of the Church of Iceland since both their churches are in a downward spiral. More importantly, like jolly June, Agnes Sigurdardottir is a firm advocate of same sex marriage in church.

It was reported back in October 2015 that "the Bishop of Iceland has categorically stated that there is no possible way of interpreting Icelandic law to enable Church of Iceland priests to refuse to marry couples on the grounds of their sexuality." As bishop she would "never put forward any proposal which has the effect of enabling discrimination of this type."

No wonder it was such a pleasure for jolly June to meet fellow hard liner Agnes.

In an earlier tweet June wrote: "The Global Women Leaders’ Forum in Reykjavik begins with welcomes from extraordinary Icelandic women, the first ever elected woman President and the current Prime Minister. Thank you Iceland for your welcome and example of gender equality."

Such sentiments imply that these women occupy their posts not on merit but as a result of positive discrimination.

 In her latest tweet jolly June rails against presumed gender inequality:

"This figure for the G7 nations is shocking. For the UK 52% of men and 62% of women say they’d be ‘comfortable with having a woman head of government’.  That’s a problem for all of us and not just women who aspire to public service @ChurchinWales.

If jolly June aspires to public service she should look beyond parity towards suitability, something currently lacking in the appointment of bishops in the Church in Wales regardless of gender.

Along with bishop Agnes, June and the rest of the bench ignore conscience, dismissing Anglicans in their flock who have not fallen for the spirit of the age but who adhere to the historic faith of the Apostles as received.

Acting more like a politician than a bishop, jolly June's message is not about salvation. It is about queering the Church and gender equality, a euphemism for sexual discrimination in favour of women. It is naked misandry as demonstrated by the bishop of St Davids in her attempt to rid her diocese of retired elderly male clergy.

Her latest prodigy is following her bishop's example. In yet another article, Church in Wales' newest vicar on the church and being transgender, the Rev Sarah Jones the new vicar at St John the Baptist church in Cardiff talks of 'diversity in the church' with emphasis on transgenderism.

Disregarding the Great Commission Jones does not believe in "bashing people with the bible" or telling them what they should believe. Instead her ministry is built around transgenderism making it clear why jolly June appointed her over more suitably qualified clergy.

Given the parlous state of the Church in Wales one would have thought that June had more pressing work in her diocese and beyond to counter declining attendances but that does not have the same cachet as somewhat incongruously attending the Global Women Leaders’ Forum to promote gender politics.

Postscript [30/11/2018]

A tweet from the Church in Wales about the Global Women Leaders’ Forum informs readers that there were "400 leaders from 80 countries and the Bishop of Llandaff was one of them".

In June's linked blog "Stepping over the gender gap" the bishop of Llandaff puts her cards on the table with this revealing statement: "Faith is in the business of challenging entrenched attitudes and changing perceptions." Changing attitudes!

It not only sums up her ministry but the direction of the bench.

I listened to Sarah Jones' short video and was impressed by the message presented - a church reaching out to the dispossessed and homeless, that's what I took from it, not an emphasis on trans issues (which was hardly mentioned). Another example of AB's skewed take on reality. Wonder what AB is going about the homeless epidemic in Cardiff. I suggest rolling up their sleeves and pitching in with Canon Sarah and making a difference.

    1. Welcome back GayChristian. If you visit the Llandaff diocese web page you will see that the current highlighted tweet reads "Church in Wales' newest vicar on the church and being transgender".       The fact that the Rev Sarah Jones is transgender is not relevant to working with the homeless so why the emphasis? The point has been made that transgenderism is no bar to ordination in the Church of England and has been accepted in the Church in Wales as a result of bishop June's action. It is simply another ploy working towards same sex marriage in church, something Sarah Jones trumpets loudly, contrary to existing Church in Wales policy https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=3&v=Na2zW-1i2TA
      Incidentally, so far as I know Sarah Jones is not a canon, unlike the former vicar of St John's who is now Dean of St Davids.

  2. If AB's take on reality is skewed,'Gay Christian's is based on a false interpretation of the Gospel, which presupposes that it begins with communal social activism, rather than on personal regeneration, which is its result. It is a vital distinction. It makes the former line heretical.

  3. PP, William Booth in 1890 wrote "In Darkest England and the Way Out" in which he expressed the need for a social Gospel. His take was that you cannot preach the Gospel to a man who is cold and hungry. Fast-forward CofE Bias to the Poor in the 90s said much the same and now Church Action on Poverty, Trussell and other leading Christians charities say the same. So, how can Canon Sarah, be wrong in her false in her treatment of the Gospel.

    Personal regeneration comes from a person's outward sign of a Inward conviction. You cannot have Christ in the heart without outward action. Christ flows from the heart.
    Heart to God, hand to man is the core of the Gospel. All Churches, high or low, inclusive, denomination, need to open there door, if they dont already do so, and be Christ in there community Canon Sarah is an example to all, but unfortunately a pain to some who just don't get the living Gospel, activism is Christ.

  4. The SA: a wonderful body, I agree.
    Yet go back to your New Testament. Jesus declined the temptation to supply an unending stream of material bread because he offered living bread and living water. Paul set off on his missionary journeys to bring Christ to men's hearts. He also made a collection for the poor of Jerusalem, yet this was not the primary motivation for his journeys. This was to tell others of the Christ wh died for them and who was still alive and had appeared to him. The modern Anglican Church, however, (speaking generally) seems less interested in rendering God glory and prefers social work. Significantly some of the prominent female bishops have not specialised in theology.

  5. Rob I have to agree, the fundamentals of the Gospel are lost when only the social Gospel is followed with a wishy washy, they will come if they want to, theology, which appears to be the current trend.
    What is lost is the energy of the Gospel message, we don't have ardent preachers, teachers who stand on the rock firmly and dispite a backlash, St Paul a prime example, or Spurgeon etc.
    What we have is platitude preaching, which will never piece the seeking heart.
    I can't say all the blame lies with ordained women, however, some have made a mangle of limited theological understanding into a hotch potch of just soundbites, platitudes and unfortunately, beating sticks.
    But, again there are the exception, there are women preachers who are brilliant at bring the Gospel. But in CinW, these are very few indeed. PP.

      If only the lightweights in Llandaff had such vision?
      Such ideas were even suggested to and reported by Prof Eleri Jones but subsequently fell on the deaf ears of those refusing to listen.
      Now there's £10 million sloshing around perhaps a bid might be made for some funding?

    2. The minutes for the meeting on 30th October of the Council of the Friends of Llandaff Cathedral have just landed on my pew.

      "9. The Chairman (read the dud in the Deanery) made a preliminary enquiry about the possibility of raising the annual grant for music from £25,000 to £35,000. He said that at the moment, the Music Department was being run on a shoestring, and there was a need to put it on a firmer foundation. The Council seemed hesitant about making such a commitment, and the Chairman (read the dud in the Deanery) said that he would return to it later."

      So, five years to the month that the assistant Organist and Lay Clerks were made redundant what has changed?

  7. The only entrenched attitude is that orthodox Christians are not welcome in CiW. Maybe June could start fighting against that?
