  8. AB Is it true that from Christmas 2018 Joanna Penberthy plans to forbid retired clergy aged 80+ from celebrating?

  9. The Episcopal Enclosure on Hereford Gold Cope (sorry Cup) Day: two bishops study form before placing their bets as to who will be the next filly to be appointed as a bishop, whilst the Bishop of Llandaff prepares to draw the winning name from her mitre.

  10. Thank you AB. I had seen that. If true, it is sad. I know 80 year old priests with higher intellects and greater alertness than this woman playing at being a bishop. some churches have written to her to protest. Those with a true vocation did not receive it from her, nor can SHE who must be obeyed remove it by her fiat. It's about time the archdeacons of St David's uttered a protest. As if they'd dare!

  13. Surely Joanna Penberthy cannot really be guilty of such AGEISM in allegedly intending to deny priests of eighty the chance of celebrating the Holy Eucharist? Surely not? That would be such a monstrous action unworthy of a Christian let alone the spiritual leader of a large diocese. Let her deny it, please, swiftly. We know that one archdeacon from St David's diocese reads this blog if not Joanna Penberthy herself.

  14. Quite so James except that Mrs Penberthy is not the spiritual leader of a large Welsh diocese as she has demonstrated on a number of occasions. Whether her "monstrous action unworthy of a Christian" is true or not she is not worthy of the prayers or patronage of Dewi Sant.

    1. Watchman, you may not be eighty yet, but many retired priests wish to continue celebrating and exercising a ministry in their retirement. We have not lost our marbles, you know. Rather the contrary, we have more time than the average priest to read, reflect, pray and prepare sermons - as you may come to think also as you grow older. What is being attributed to Joanna Penberthy is insufferable, unforgiveable, outdated ageism. After all 80 is the new 60!

    2. The girls are all for inclusivity - except when it suits them to be as narrow-minded as is necessary to recreate the Church in their own image and likeness. For 'Joanna' read 'Barry.' I would have thought this is open to a legal challenge. In the meantime, some of us will be studiously ignoring this latest diktat from the Abergwyli politburo and inviting our local retired clergy, regardless of age, to exercise their priestly ministry. This is just another example of Protestant myopia: that priesthood is purely about function. Her theology is as abysmal as her Welsh. Arglwydd trugahar.

    3. Brothers and sisters, rumours wafting across diocesan boundaries on the wind reckon that, next month (September), Mrs Penberthy's scandalous behaviour towards one of her clergy is about to come out in a tribunal. That one is going to be a story for Martin Shipton. If I were he, I would be booking my seat right now. According to the same rumours, His Grace, John Cambrensis will not get involved because it is going to get very messy, and he doesn't want to be left with egg on his face. So who knows, Her Ladyship of Abergwili may not be there much longer to prevent the over-80 year olds functioning as priests!!

  18. Very well Alwyn. How about this caption? " Pull yourself together man - You look like a pair of curtains and don't try to deflect me with all that chauvinistic Jesus stuff. He was only a man and has no place in a function like this."
