    1. The Archbishop of York:
"If only people would talk as much about Jesus as they do about the weather, they might succeed in converting others, the Archbishop of York has stated. He was speaking in a debate on how better to empower the 1 million lay people who make up 98 per cent of the Church of England to evangelise the nation.

      The bishop of St Davids:
"We don't want to force our faith on other people. We are not called to ram our faith down the throats of our contemporaries".

  4. the problem is Whamab, that we don't agree as Anglicans what mission is. The great blessing of a good Bishop is that they allow diversity in their dioceses and recognise other ways of being Anglican than their own, and encourage them to flourish, just look at London and a Catholic Bishop recognising and encouraging the work of Holy Trinity.
Sadly in Wales it is obedience to the Bench that is expected, and one liberal way of doing things, a very controlling Church. We don't look for success and find out why.
St Michael's Aberyswyth has been amazing at mission for years, sending many to theological college as well as creating disciples, yet has been mocked routinely by most on the Bench.
We no longer teach or believe in holiness. Left wing politics has replaced Christianity, and quite frankly, is not worth getting out of bed on a Sunday morning for.

    1. We will agree on mission one day when the liberal left element of the church has all died out. Good point though and a sad day when we have to qualify what mission is.

  5. What a droning bore.
Dewi Sant must be spinning in his grave.
Almost as bad as Gerwhine's drivel last Sunday about forgiving one's brother.
From he of the poison pen and nasty letter to old ladies and widows.

    1. If you can preach a better sermon then go for it. I am sure Dean Capon would be able to fit you into the monthly calendar. Jealousy will get you nowhere Queen Dear.

Preaching a better sermon than --Bazza's glove puppet would hardly be a challenge, most Sunday school kids could make a better attempt.
Of course the fantabulous dud in the Deanery would have no difficulty fitting in guest preachers, he's away from the Cathedral more than he's in it.

    4. Whatever the standard of preaching by the Canon Residentiary, he hasn't managed to lose three Directors of Music, a little Catholic curate, oversee a disastrous Cathedral Cafe "experiment", conceal Health & Safety and Quinquennial reports, stopped publishing disastrous communicant numbers, repeatedly fiddled the accounts or failed to attract a single applicant for his new Minor Canon post.
All in less than three years.
Supporting that track record is even more clueless than the dud "Swaggers bag".

    5. Stuff and nonsense Simon. Our dear Dean has had great success at enlivening the 11 o'clock eucharist at Llandaff with new recruits. He has gone out amongst the highways and byways of Cardiff to bring in sinners old and young (well, mostly under forty), who stand out amongst the drab old timers like well-polished cherubs as they sit eager to hear the word of the Lord.

In this our fine Dean is following St Matthew:

      Matthew 4:19
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

    6. Which of Simple Simon's listed facts are you challenging?
The dud lost Moorhouse, Christopher Gower failed to show up (with his-wink wink-Organ Scholar) after Gerwhine announced his appointment from the Lectern and Bielby left three months earlier than announced. All unexplained.
The Cathedral Cafe 'experiment' closed prematurely, weeks earlier than announced.
The Health & Safety report was leaked to the press and this blog.
The Quinquennial report is still under wraps.
Communicant numbers have not been published in The Bell since December 2015.
The last published accounts revealed a loss of £200k+ and the Minor Canon post is still vacant.

The fantabulous dud in the Deanery is highly selective over which parts of St Matthew he follows and must have skipped past Matthew Chapter 6:19 while he was at the auctions.

  7. I can now openly and publicly announce that I have left the Church in Wales after a lifetime and have been received into the Anglican Catholic Church (Diocese of the United Kingdom) as a priest, initially to do mission work in North Wales. The Diocese is blessed with a loving, caring and prayerful Bishop. None of us HAS to remain in an establishment that makes us unhappy. "Come out from among them." I urge and encourage any traditional, orthodox Anglican Christians to help establish a house group which will, God willing, grow into a mission and a congregation. A Bible and bread and wine, and we're in business.

It is completely disgusting that you have felt it necessary to leave.
If the misfits, deviants and WATCH/MAE coven members don't like the C of E or the C in W, why don't they just push off and start their own queer church sect instead of wrecking two thousand years of received wisdom, teaching and tradition?

    3. Because the Anglican Catholic Church of Wales returns to basic Christian Catholic teaching. Not one which exist and operates as a 'Coven', which you rightly describe.

  8. I find it difficult to add to the chorus of ridicule and indignation, simply because none of this should come as any surprise. I feel sorry for her, more than anything, for having been propelled into this position by Barry Morgan's controlling shenanigans. How on earth can someone like this lead and inspire a diocese? Like so many women of a certain age in the ministry, she regards the church as a domestic club and is incapable of speaking to a wider audience with any imagination beyond organising coffee mornings. Embarrassed about God - and probably embarrassed about the historic significance of her Office. Lightweight in the extreme and clearly destined to drag the diocese down with her. I can't imagine what the cost will be to her health as the going gets tough.

Thank you, Barry, you have done it again. What happened to Bangor will surely follow in St Davids, as the gifted clergy run a mile from the incompitence of a dead duck of a bishop.

  9. Just a couple of helpful (though pedantic) observations: First, the Anglican Catholic Church hasn't had the need to 'return to basic Christian Catholic teaching', because it never departed from it.
Secondly, I noted from Mrs Penberthy's address the thanks offered to 'my staff'. That seems to betray the underlying spirit which has been driving this movement off the Gadarene cliff edge. It is typical of 'management speak', not that of a servant of the servants of God.
My appeal to faithful followers of the Lord is to see this time as a great opportunity to get into the ACC boat. The CinW bark is holed below the water line. Many will have heard the story of the man who was hanging tenuously onto a hand-hold whilst dangling off a cliff. He appealed to the Lord to save him and the man refused a rope let down from the top, and a boat arriving from below, then perished. When he asked the Lord why He didn't save him the Lord replied that He had sent someone with a rope and a boat!
Please, sisters and brothers, please stop looking in the wrong direction. Would you really invite an enquirer to go with you to find forgiveness and new life in a place so full of human distractions and self-worship that they cannot see Jesus? Of course not. Stop thinking that your hopes and memories for recapturing the better days will be fulfilled in the CinW, or CoE et al. 'In returning and rest you shall be save; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength' (Is 30:15). Yes, we may not have the stipends and the old watering places (actually, sometimes we do, ours is a 13th century chapel in Pembrokeshire), but, we can safely say, come, leave self behind, and find the water of life. He blesses those who go forward in faith.
Perhaps now is the time to respond. With God's help the ACC missions will continue to grow in Wales. St David told his folk not to despise the little things. There have been some wonderful times of revival of faith in Wales. Is this not one of them?

Fr Myles Maylor has got it in one. Fancy beginning an enthronement sermon with a string of house-keeping 'Thank Yous'. Obviously 'my staff' needed thanking before God. In fact, the whole thing was completely devoid of any vision of God. Compare it to Rowan Williams' enthronement sermon. And by the way, the place to thank people for organising the bun fight is... well, actually, the bun fight: not an act of worship. Arthur Jones is spot on, too. The domus ecclesia has well and truly been overtaken by the domus domestica!

  11. Best of luck to you all as you set up your little private club of Anglicanism. It will shrivel because your hearts are devoid of compassion and generosity.
