And then there were three...
Amidst the back slapping, 'shock', 'surprise', 'delight', 'humbling', etc, etc, there must be a feeling among some of the male clergy who chose career over conscience that the game is up - if you're not a woman, forget it. They will experience the feeling of being sidelined as 'traditionalists' have been sidelined, although less in England than in Wales I should add in fairness.
The third woman bishop to be appointed will take her seat in the Lords but God forbid that she were the only woman bishop so she will need company in case she needs someone to hold the door when she goes to the loo. Then there is the more serious question of female representation. It will not matter one jot if better qualified males are passed over in the name of 'equality'.
Dave knows a thing or two about equality, or he thinks he does from his twit following the appointment of the Rev Libby Lane: "An historic appointment and an important day for equality"! Historic yes, another nail in the coffin of the Anglican Church in Great Britain but secular notions of equality are misplaced in the Church.
What the Church of England has become was exemplified by the ridiculous tourism enhancing event that the 're-burial' of the bones King Richard III became. He was not an Anglican. A Rosary was placed in his coffin as a token of his Catholicism. Carving out a new career for herself having done more than most to wreck the Church of England Christina Rees represented the CofE in the Channel 4 commentary box for the occasion. Asked about the Rosary she said that Anglicans do not use the Rosary. I think she meant feminists but an understandable mistake since the two have become synonymous.
Anglicans don't use the Rosary????
ReplyDeleteAnglicans don't use the Rosary? Well, I never knew that! I do and so do many others
ReplyDeleteProtestants do not use the Rosary ,but those of traditional Anglo-Catholic integrity do so. Here again the wishy -washy protestant element are aiming to dictate to the traditional Church.
ReplyDelete"Affirmative action" will remain at work for however many years it takes until a female majority is obtained.
ReplyDeleteThe repeated use of "fast track" speaks volumes.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's interesting, to say the least, that all three are married to clergymen. It raises questions as to the much vaunted prospect of women's ordination being able break through the barriers of incomprehension and evangelise the culture.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I forgot, it's 'a justice issue' ...
I am wondering why ++Barry has not created a female Bishop : 'no vacancy' has not stopped him previously. Discretion is the word......if there is no post available then he creates one.
ReplyDelete@Simple soul – I don’t think His Darkness has any intention of appointing a woman bishop. For him it was more about dismantling the traditional historical structures of the CinW, and allowing the debate to destroy the church from the inside. He’s using the same tactics with the same-sex ‘marriage’ issue. If he had an ounce of integrity he would have engineered the first woman bishop in Wales long ago. All he has succeeded in doing is creating a church of the disaffected. There are those who are ignored and disregarded by the ordination of women. And there are those ladies who have loyally followed their leader and have not seen the rewards for they obedience. The Evil One himself could not have played a better game at destroying the church.
DeleteInteresting 1549- and what you say is revealing. " Dismantling the traditional historic structures" : hence the 'ecumenical Bishops'.
DeleteBarry is devising his own protestant church in Wales,so will he rewrite the creed ,so there will be no more "I believe in one Holy Catholic Church"? Or is he rewriting the dictionary and the definition of 'Catholic' ? Barry's church will be no longer in respect of the whole .
As a protestant, I am not happy saying "I believe in one Holy Catholic Church" but quite happy with "I believe in one holy catholic church" .. .. ..
DeleteThe Church in Wales in in communion with the Old Catholic Church,(see CinW website). The Old Catholics state that they are part of The One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.
DeleteSo no escaping Evangelical Ed . ! or perhaps cross your fingers in the relevant part of the Creed.
"...all three are married to clergymen."
ReplyDeleteThat in turn will come to seem old-fashioned.
Surely it should be "married to clergy-persons"
DeleteWell, this is proof that the Barry Morgan policy of nepotism is alive and well in the Church of England. Alison White and Libby Lane were at theological college with Justin Welby. Rachel Treweek is part of Pete Broadbent (Willesden)'s inner circle - and Broadbent is one of Welby's chief acolytes. Just as the Church in Wales under Barry Morgan is showing growing signs of zygosity (the diseases which are the result of in-breeding), so the C of E is adopting the old school tie approach, with people 'who think like we think' in senior posts, and all taking us down the road of congenital decline. Frankly, we could do with a few Rosaries being said in this anodyne province of the Anglican Communion, with its bored and boring Primate.
ReplyDeleteWith apologies once more to Ancient Briton for being somewhat off-topic but, since it is current headline news, one must strike while the iron is hot etc.

"Ed Miliband said a future Labour government would guarantee zero-hours workers the right to a formal contract after 12 weeks of regular work, a move which he said would reduce economic insecurity but which was criticised by employers."
Now that the detached London political elite are having to make promises to take action on the abusive and discredited "zero-hours" contracts, will the Arch ++Socialist follow suit by issuing a similar proclamation that the Church in Wales will not resort to using such contracts, in particular for professional musicians at Llandaff Cathedral?
The smart money says His ++Darkness will take burger flippers over ethics every time.
Yes, Lux et Veritas. And the wages paid by the Cathedral to their singers have been cut by 60% since Jonathan Bielby took over. First, he could hire adult singers at £40 per service. It was then cut to £30. Now, they are being paid £25 - and Bielby is being told to restrict the back row of the choir to 6 singers per service (no chance of doing the Allegri miserere during Lent or Victoria's Reproaches on Good Friday). If you bear in mind travel costs, rehearsal times, time spent learning new music this represents about £6.25 per hour. Hardly a living wage!
DeleteTwo weekends ago the scheduled setting of Jackson in G had to be scrapped because Bielby couldn't get a back row.
DeleteAre you forgetting that the service fee for the proper Cathedral choir was around £13?
DeleteAccording to Peggy the chartered accountant Pilot, the Cathedral could not afford to pay its Lay Clerks even that pittance which is why-she claimed-she had to make them all redundant.
The pontificating primate is at it again.

"Archbishop of Wales Barry Morgan has expressed his fears that for the poorest people in the nation the “worst is yet to come” at a time when public services are under intense pressure and families turn to charity to put food on the table."
“There are people who are in work and simply can’t afford to make ends meet by the end of the week.”
"In the Church in Wales, he said, people from opposite ends of the income spectrum often worship together in the same congregation."
Perhaps he's referring to all the wealthy judges, barristers, lawyers, doctors, surveyors, architects, bankers and businessmen in his Cathedral mixing with the singers on zero hours contracts?
The voters will be particularly impressed with his comments when they find out about his latest little junket with Swan Hellenic.

The "people who are in work and simply can’t afford to make ends meet by the end of the week.” might also like to know that there are two Confirmation services in Llandaff Cathedral this April and Bazza will therefore be dipping his hands into the collection plate twice this month to supplement his unaudited 'Discretionary' fund.
DeleteWhen speaking of the “people who are in work and simply can’t afford to make ends meet by the end of the week.” will His ++Darkness come clean and declare to those people whether he will be enjoying the amenities of a basic “Inside” cabin at £2,286 per person, an “Outside” cabin at £3,254 per person or a “Balcony” cabin at £5,571 per person?
Delete@Gabriel
ReplyDeleteQuite correct sir.
At the confirmation service Llandaff Cathedral was awash with little yellow envelopes marked "The Bishop of Llandaff Mission Account". The land of the moving curtain awaits the arrival of a senior DBF crony to collect the swag bag from Mr Toad.
'The Bishop of Llandaff Mission Account'? What mission? Please would someone who sits on the Llandaff Diocesan Conference table a question at the forthcoming Conference requesting a detailed, audited examination of this account/holiday/cruise/slush fund?
