Have people seen this? My former church was Baptist/URC in East Anglia so I know the College well, although not the current Principal who has a Church of Scotland rather than URC background.

    2. Presumably, his employer at Cambridge would have first sought the references of his former employers; the diocese of Bangor and in work as Bursar, particularly to his handling of accounts. Now who, I wonder, within the diocese of Bangor was it that wrote what can only be assumed to be a wholly dishonest 'reference'. The same person, perhaps, who having sacked Dean Susan Jones as dean of Bangor, then wrote a reference enabling her to become dean of Liverpool?

Oh don’t be too sure!! Most Cambridge College governing bodies/high tables make Cathedral Chapter dynamics look healthy - utter viper pits. They won’t tolerate excessive dressing up (well not in public at least…). Here’s the really good bit…in many the Bursar is regarded as someone who is a necessary evil - not a ‘genuine’ fellow as not an academic and a tedious necessity (we need money, but it’s SO low grade all this begging for money…), so very much out on a limb, and should they decide he’s a liability, he won’t find a ‘soft touch’ goon in charge he can easily con. His Former Mock Eminence may find he has bitten off significantly more than he can chew. Time alone will tell!

  8. Regarding Bangor Cathedral, all this malpractice happened on Andy John's watch and due to his direct appointments. The man pleads for Christian forgiveness which is right but he must also face Christian accountability for what HE has done. This isn't the first time he has been implicated in poor behaviour. The man acts like a feudal baron in his fiefdom, not a servant leader leading by example. I don't think he'll ever resign even though it is patenty the right decision. Professor Hughes must be horrified at the state of Bangor Diocese and its Cathedral. If I were him I'd threaten to go if John does not.

  12. Ah yes, the Diocese of Bangor — where meteoric rises require minimal experience and maximum proximity to the Cathedral. Who needs competence when you’ve got connections? It’s less a Church, more a revolving door of hopeful amateurs buzzing around the Cathedral like it's the last drop of nectar on Earth. Or, considering the extracurricular activity, maybe “honeytrap” is closer to the mark. But by all means, keep the full report under wraps — wouldn’t want the truth getting in the way.

    3. When will this man realise that he is not fit for office? As archbishop and bishop of the cathedral which is the subject of this report, the buck stops with him. A resignation is the only answer. Otherwise confidence in the hierarchy of the C in W can only fall further if that is at all possible. It's time that the generally useless governing body showed some real courage and made it clear that the parishes of the C in W have had enough and that radical action is needed.

I doubt very much of the dozy ranks of the governing body even have the courage to tell their 'servant' Andrew what is thought of him, spoken of him and written about him. He, like Trump, probably thinks the world loves him. It doesn't. Certainly his minions of Bangor Cathedral 'Chapter' have failed in their duty to congregants to inform Andrew that his shelf-life has become become unhinged ... as unhinged as he is.

Mr John, often referred to as the last Archbishop of Wales, must surely realise that his recent actions, and I include the constructive dismissal of the Very Revd Sue Jones, in these actions, have led to his inevitable removal from office. But this removal should not happen until the congregations of St Deiniol’s Cathedral and all the other congregations in the diocese of Bangor and throughout Wales, have been given a full and complete explanation as to why the curate/Diocesan Secretary/Sub Dean was allowed to do as he pleased, including the freedom to continue his carefree, frivolous spending whilst in his his two posts.

The chocolate is melting Andy, at least be honest in explaining how and why you allowed, perhaps condoned, all that has gone on in the Cathedral to take place under your leadership.

Andy John, often referred to as the last Archbishop of Wales, must surely realise that his actions and behaviour over recent years, and I include the Constructive Dismisal of the Very Revd Dean Sue Jones, in this long list of actions, have led to his inevitable removal from this once respected senior role in the Church in Wales. This removal should not however take place until the ++ gives a full, honest and detailed explanation of why he has acted, or in many instances he has not acted, as the Curate/Sub Dean/ Diocesan Secretary was allowed the freedom to blatantly do as he liked, and spend inappropriately the funds under his control, without interference or questioning or explanation, to satisfy his personal fancies; all this whilst under the the Archbishops eyes. ++AJ must surely have been aware of what was happening.

The chocolate is melting Andy, before it disappears you should give what you must realise is the necessary and honest action of telling us all why you allowed whatever has been going on, to happen during your period of leadership, albeit substandard leadership. Perhaps you should be made to take an enforced sabbatical 🤔

Multiple serious referrals made about cathedral

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2rn51xl3no

Six serious incident referrals relating to a cathedral that was criticised in a safeguarding review were made to the Charity Commission in just over a year.

Four related to safeguarding at Bangor Cathedral in Gwynedd while two concerned financial matters.

This included allegations over large amounts of diocesan funds being spent on cathedral matters, which a whistleblower said should be deemed inappropriate as they are classified as two separate charities.

The Charity Commission said it would make recommendations for improvements to the charities concerned, while the Chapter of Bangor Cathedral said it took its "responsibilities for good governance very seriously".

    2. Taken from the same BBC news report
"BBC-produced Newyddion S4C was told members of the cathedral community made a whistleblowing complaint to the commission listing dozens of perceived failings at the cathedral and diocese in October. These included the ordination of a priest allegedly against the recommendation of the discernment panel, external, who later became a cathedral official before serving the usual period of curacy. Bangor Cathedral insiders believe the Bishop of Bangor and Archbishop of Wales Andrew John approved the ordination and subsequent promotion of the official involved. There were concerns as this went against the wishes of the discernment panel and the individual in question rose unusually quickly through the church ranks. Bangor Cathedral said the individual served their curacy period and the discernment panel made recommendations, with bishops having the discretion to make an alternative decision, such as in this case.

The former official, who has left the cathedral and the priesthood, did not want to talk on the record when asked.

  21. Public officials should act solely in the public interest, avoiding any personal gains or conflicts of interest. The Nolan Principles have been instrumental in shaping the standards of conduct for MPs, civil servants, and other public office holders in the UK, and they are:

    Integrity:
They should avoid any financial or other obligations that could influence their official duties, and be truthful in their dealings.

    Objectivity:
Public officials should make decisions based on merit and evidence, avoiding bias or prejudice.

    Accountability:
They are responsible for their decisions and actions and must submit themselves to appropriate scrutiny.

    Openness:
Public officials should be as transparent as possible, disclosing information unless there are legitimate reasons not to.

    Honesty:
They should be truthful in their dealings and declare any private interests that could conflict with their public duties.

    Leadership:
Public officials should promote and support these principles by leading by example and advocating for ethical behavior within their organizations.

  23. Chaper VI:1.2 No person shall be appointed Dean or Archdeacon unless he or she has been at least six years in priest’s orders. (CiW Constitution)

It is also well known the former curate-dean failed his discernment panel.

Despite that, John ordained him anyway and circumvented the constitution by appointing someone as a Dean in all but name who was only just in priest's orders. All the safeguards implicit in the above canon were ignored. Yet more avoidable scandal allowed by his inability to make sound decisions.

Who will be brave enough to initiate proceedings against John for disrepute charges?

On the basis of what is known, printed, published, reported, not denied by the CiW Press Office, known in confidence, spoken of in Chapter and brushed under the carpet by the inept and irrelevant Archdeacon of Bangor (Andy's appointee) then answer to the question who should be brave enough to initiate proceedings has to be, in the first place, the vote of no confidence from the other six Provincial bishops including the newboy Bardsey. To continue to serve or cower under him simply demonstrates them - individually and collectively - to be cowardly cohorts and weaklings. Andrew John has brought shame on himself; pity that he's dragging others down with him.

A single letter of six signatures would tip the balance. But they have no respect.

What would be the position in all this, past, present and future, of the previous Ass Bp of Bangor who meanwhile continued in post as Archdeacon of Bangor, and with who would have also have had knowledge of ap Rhys when he was a humble curate in Llandudno? I'm sure she will not have wanted to sully her name while in Bangor as a whistle-blower in case it impinged on her own agenda or clerical career. A question to be asked? She will have been well aware of changes in the management style and financing of the cathedral in contrast to Dean Kathy's efforts.

  26. The cathedral is rife with senior figures involved in this corruption.

[Apparently] - The chaplain (also grossly under qualified and experienced for his role) who has jumped the sinking ship, the bonkers bishop of Bardsey (also under qualified and experienced), the lady canon (who was also grossly under qualified and experienced when she was made a canon), the archdeacon who disappeared (who perhaps shouldn't have become an archdeacon in the first place), and that young lad in the diocesan office whose family history in that cathedral is rife with scandal. All of which, apart from, the lady canon, were the ones enjoying themselves on frivolous trips to Rome with the diocesan chequebook.

Then, [apparently] there's the bbc reporter from the choir who doesn't believe in God and has a few questions surrounding his erratic behaviour, language, and financial spending of the parish in llandudno was the cause of him being officially told not to attend that place of worship any more.

One really questions who ++Andy has been surrounding himself with and why does he seem to not favour experienced, wise, discerning, nor scrutinous people around him. What sinister reason does he have for preferring the inexperienced, naiive, suck ups, who adore him and never questions him?
